Detroit Red Wings Preview: Larkin Out, Front Office in Flux

2025-26 recap: Detroit went 41-31-10 (92 points), finished sixth in the Atlantic Division and missed the playoffs. The Red Wings were tied with Carolina for first in the Eastern Conference with a 12-point playoff cushion on Jan. 24, then went 9-15-5 the rest of the way and ranked 30th in goals per game (2.55) over that stretch. They also ranked 30th in 5-on-5 goals (142) (NHL.com). Alex DeBrincat led the team with 85 points (41 goals, 44 assists), Lucas Raymond had 76 points and Larkin scored 34 goals.

Offseason moves: Detroit signed forward Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year, $10 million contract after he had 54 points (25 goals, 29 assists) for Boston, acquired forward Keegan Kolesar (270 hits last season, seventh in the NHL) from Vegas, and signed goalie Daniil Tarasov and defenseman Jacob Bryson.
