New York Rangers Preview: Two Straight Wins and a Goalie Goal

2025-26 recap: The Rangers went 34-39-9 (77 points) and finished last in the Metropolitan Division. They lost their first seven games at Madison Square Garden (0-6-1), a franchise record, and traded Artemi Panarin during the season (NHL.com). Mika Zibanejad led the team with 78 points (34 goals, 44 assists).

Offseason moves: New York acquired forward Pavel Dorofeyev (37 goals for Vegas last season) and signed him to a seven-year, $77 million contract. The Rangers traded Trocheck to Utah for Durzi, acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from Vancouver and goalie Joonas Korpisalo from Boston, and added forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand, Eeli Tolvanen and Joe Veleno. Defenseman Alberts Smits, the No. 5 selection in the 2026 draft, made the opening roster at 18. Goalie Jonathan Quick retired.
