Format: The NLCS is a best-of-seven series in a 2-3-2 format. Games 1 and 2 are at American Family Field, home of the top-seeded Brewers, Games 3, 4 and 5 are at Dodger Stadium, and Games 6 and 7, if necessary, return to Milwaukee. In Atlanta, Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out a postseason career-high 10 over seven innings in a 3-1 Game 3 win, with homers from Kiké Hernández and Freddie Freeman. San Diego won Game 3 4-3 at Petco Park, where Jake Cronenworth homered off JoJo Romero (L), an error by Cooper Pratt let in an unearned run in the sixth, and Michael King got six outs for the save as the Brewers left 11 men on base. Los Angeles scored 801 runs and allowed 600, hit .257 with a .762 OPS and 204 homers, and posted a 3.55 team ERA with 46 saves (MLB Stats API). Ohtani led the club with 30 homers and an .889 OPS, and Pages drove in a team-high 85 runs (MLB Stats API team leaders). The Dodgers are trying to become the first NL team to win three straight World Series titles (AP via ESPN).
Lineup notes: Los Angeles hit .203 (27-for-133) with 14 runs and eight homers in the NLDS; Muncy hit three homers, Freeman two, and Tucker led the team with five hits (MLB Stats API box scores). Will Smith went 1-for-16 and Ohtani 2-for-13, and MLB.com noted Roberts has moved Ohtani down in the order. Season in review: Manager Pat Murphy‘s Brewers went 103-59, the best record in the majors, won the NL Central and earned the NL’s No. 1 seed, going 55-26 at home and 48-33 on the road. Milwaukee scored 832 runs and allowed 618, hit .258 with a .341 on-base percentage and a .744 OPS, stole 162 bases and posted a 3.51 team ERA with 55 saves (MLB Stats API). Jake Bauers led the club with 26 homers and an .873 OPS, Chourio hit .291 with 25 homers, and Brice Turang drove in 100 runs (MLB Stats API team leaders). This is Milwaukee’s fifth League Championship Series in franchise history and its third straight against the Dodgers (MLB.com).
Lineup notes: Milwaukee hit .250 (33-for-132) with 13 runs and three homers in the NLDS, leaving 37 runners on base (MLB Stats API box scores). Starting Pitchers: Tarik Skubal vs Jacob Misiorowski
Dodgers: Tarik Skubal (LHP). Skubal went 12-7 with a 2.72 ERA in 26 starts this season, with 186 strikeouts, 27 walks, a 0.96 WHIP and a .217 opponents’ average in 158 2/3 innings (MLB Stats API). He made 16 starts for Detroit (2.79 ERA) before the Dodgers acquired him ahead of the Trade Deadline, then posted a 2.61 ERA in 10 starts for Los Angeles, and his road ERA was 1.70 in 12 starts (MLB Stats API, MLB.com). He faced Milwaukee once, on Aug. 16 at Dodger Stadium: six innings, seven hits, one earned run, two walks and seven strikeouts on 109 pitches in a 6-2 loss. In NLDS Game 1 on Oct. 3 he allowed one run on two hits over six innings with seven strikeouts (94 pitches), and Sunday is his first appearance in eight days. Brewers: Jacob Misiorowski (RHP). The MLB Stats API lists Misiorowski as Milwaukee’s Game 1 starter. He led the majors in ERA (1.80), strikeouts (252), WHIP (0.80) and opponents’ average (.157), going 16-5 in 30 starts with a 1.52 ERA at home (MLB Stats API, MLB.com). He started NLDS Game 1 on Oct. 3 and allowed two runs in four innings with six strikeouts on 88 pitches; MLB.com reported he warmed up in the ninth inning of Game 4 but was not used.
