Vancouver Canucks Preview: Four-Game Road Trip Begins in Raleigh

2025-26 recap: Vancouver went 25-49-8 (58 points), the fewest points in the NHL. The Canucks allowed the most goals in the league, had the worst penalty kill (71.5 percent) and tied for 30th in goals scored (NHL.com). Elias Pettersson led the team with 51 points, Filip Hronek had 49 and Brock Boeser scored 22 goals.

Offseason moves: Vancouver fired coach Adam Foote on May 19 and hired Manny Malhotra, who won the 2025 Calder Cup coaching AHL Abbotsford, on June 1. Ryan Johnson became GM, and Henrik and Daniel Sedin were named co-presidents of hockey operations. On Sunday, Cotter (power play) and Lekkerimaki scored in a 3-2 loss to Vegas. Pettersson and Cotter each have six points (NHL.com).

Injuries: Demko and forward Filip Chytil (shoulder) are on injured reserve, and Mackenzie MacEachern, Akil Thomas and Jack Thompson are on the injured non-roster list (ESPN). Henrik Sedin said he hopes Demko can return before Christmas (NHL.com).

Carolina Hurricanes Preview: The Stanley Cup Champions Return Home

2025-26 recap: Carolina went 53-22-7 (113 points), won the Metropolitan Division, finished first in the Eastern Conference and won the Stanley Cup. The Hurricanes swept Ottawa and Philadelphia, beat Montreal in five games in the conference final and beat Vegas in six games in the Final (NHL.com). Aho led the team with 80 points, Nikolaj Ehlers had 71, Andrei Svechnikov had 31 goals and 70 points, and Seth Jarvis scored a team-high 32 goals.

Offseason moves: Carolina brought back nearly all of its championship roster. Goalie Frederik Andersen, who went 16-14-5 in 35 games last season, now plays for Edmonton. Defenseman Alexander Nikishin is listed as out in a contract dispute, and Jarvis is on the injured non-roster list after shoulder surgery (ESPN).
