2025-26 recap: Edmonton went 41-30-11 (93 points) and finished second in the Pacific Division, then lost to Anaheim in six games in the first round after reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2024 and 2025. The Oilers led the NHL on the power play (30.6 percent) but allowed 3.23 goals per game, 25th in the league (NHL.com). Connor McDavid led the team with 138 points (48 goals, 90 assists), Leon Draisaitl had 97 points and Evan Bouchard had 95.
Offseason moves: Edmonton fired coach Kris Knoblauch on May 14 and hired Mike Babcock, who has 700 NHL wins and had not coached in the league since 2019, on June 23. Goalie Frederik Andersen signed after winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina, and the Oilers acquired goalie Devon Levi from Buffalo and signed defenseman Ryan Shea. The Ducks beat Edmonton in six games in the first round before losing to Vegas in six in the second round. They ranked 13th in scoring (3.23 goals per game) but 29th in goals against (3.51) (NHL.com). Cutter Gauthier led the team with 41 goals and 69 points, Leo Carlsson had 67 points and Calder Trophy finalist Beckett Sennecke had 60.
Offseason moves: Anaheim matched Philadelphia’s five-year, $90 million offer sheet for Carlsson, signed defenseman Pavel Mintyukov to a five-year contract and signed Gauthier to a six-year, $81 million extension. Mason McTavish was traded to St. Louis, John Carlson signed with Tampa Bay, Jacob Trouba signed with San Jose and Olen Zellweger was traded to Buffalo.
