2025-26 recap: Tampa Bay went 50-26-6 (106 points) and finished second in the Atlantic Division, then lost to Montreal in seven games in the first round. New York Rangers Preview: Dorofeyev Era Begins at MSG

2025-26 recap: The Rangers went 34-39-9 (77 points), finished last in the Metropolitan Division and missed the playoffs. Home ice was the problem early: they lost their first seven games at Madison Square Garden (0-6-1), a franchise record, and were shut out in five of them. They also trailed after the first period 32 times and won only five of those games (NHL.com). Mika Zibanejad led the team with 78 points (34 goals, 44 assists).

Offseason moves: New York acquired forward Pavel Dorofeyev (37 goals for Vegas last season, plus 12 in the playoffs) and signed him to a seven-year, $77 million contract. The Rangers traded center Vincent Trocheck to Utah for defenseman Sean Durzi, acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from Vancouver, and added forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand, Eeli Tolvanen and Joe Veleno. They drafted defenseman Alberts Smits No. 5 overall, and he is on the opening roster. Will Borgen was traded to Boston and goalie Jonathan Quick retired.
